I hope that my replacement battery is better than the old one (it was good to replace it in any case, as the old one just worked for 4 to 8 hours max, but after taking it out of the watch I figured that it had expanded. I guess, erratic behavior after installing a new battery which is almost empty is normal. I have done a force restart and given it plenty of time to charge. When I put it on charge the charging snake turns green but does not start.

I'm having the same prob after installing a new battery. A simple solution to this Apple Watch stuck on charging or snake screen is to plug your Apple Watch with a genuine Magnetic Charging Cable connected to a wall charger. I'm coming to the conclusion that the batteries sold by iFixit are too old sometimes (especially when they are for the early watch models).
